Additional Education Resources: Links of Interest for Teachers and Parents


Details required for submitting a site for resources page. On this page you will find a variety of links to other sites providing an array of resources that may be of assistance as you seek to make your child's learning experiences the best they can be. Note that each of these sites is outside of our system, and other than periodic review, we cannot ensure quality or endorse products or services offered. We are always interested in additional suggestions of sites you believe will be of benefit to our visitors. You may be affiliated with the site you suggest, but it is not required. We will periodically review the suggestions and add those that we believe are appropriate. We may request a link in exchange. We will also remove any site that we consider to be promoting or condoning products or activities inappropriate for families, children, or teachers.


American Library Association (http://www.ala.org/): The voice of American libraries. The oldest and largest library association in the world. Its mission is to promote the highest quality library and information services and public access to information. ALA offers professional services and publications to members and nonmembers, including online news stories from American libraries and analyses of crucial issues.

American Psychological Association: Access a variety of literature, guides, codes, and other resources related to educational testing. Check out the following:
Code of Fair Testing Practices in Education (http://www.apa.org/science/fairtestcode.html): A guide to assist education professionals in providing and administering tests that are fair and equitable. Information for parents to help ensure that appropriate practices are followed with their children.
Testing and Assessment (http://www.apa.org/science/testing.html): Information on guidelines and standards that govern testing, the APA's stand on certain testing issues, and finding and obtaining appropriate tests.
Testing Information Clearinghouse (http://www.apa.org/science/testclearinghs.html): Assistance in locating (online, publishers, etc.) the publications you need regarding testing and administration of tests.

Campus Books (http://www.campusbooks.com/): Campus Books finds the lowest prices on the Internet for new and used textbooks. Their search encompasses dozens of bookstores, thousands of sellers, and millions of new and used textbooks.

Direct Textbooks (http://www.directtextbook.com/): Direct Textbooks helps students and book lovers find textbooks and books by searching over 30 online stores and 1000s of libraries throughout the United States.

Early Childhood Links (http://www.earlychildhoodlinks.com/teachers/resourcesitesindex.htm): Site dedicated to providing teachers of infants through early elementary students with access to great resources. Parents will enjoy these sites also, though there are additional links in the parent section (just replace the word "teachers" with "parents" in the URL).

Library of Congress (http://www.loc.gov): A treasure trove of memories from the oldest cultural institution in America. 128 million items, and more become available via the Internet everyday. Take your time at this site; with so much to see and do, it takes awhile to work your way from stem to stern, but it is worth it!

Local School Directory (http://www.localschooldirectory.com): This a completely free Web site that provides in-depth statistical information on 130,000ĘK-12 Public and Private Schools.

Maps.com (http://www.maps101.com): A unique and comprehensive geography-centric online resource that makes the teaching of social studies interactive and engaging.

United States Department of Education (http://www.ed.gov): Access resources and information specifically targeted toward students, teachers, parents and/or administrators. You can also check on news related to education issues in the United States, or go to special sections dealing with grants and contracts, financial aid, research and statistics, policy, and programs. Western Writers of America (http://www.westernwriters.org/): Founded in 1953 to promote the literature of the American West and bestow Spur Awards for distinguished writing in the western field. The founders were largely authors who wrote traditional western fiction, but the organization swiftly expanded to include historians and other nonfiction authors, young adult and romance writers, and writers interested in regional history.
